About Art

Here is the most critically aclaimed moments of bollywood.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0TW6xMl9l0&feature=related
Film directed by Gurudatt, Pyaasa (1957), meaning thirsty. These are the moments where an artist reject the society, even when society is worshipping him (under the illusion that he is a dead poet) The lyrics says
'this world it is consisting of the enmeies of men.
It is the society of throne, palaces, crowns. it is the society hungry for rituals of wealth
even if I get this world, how does it matter.
Each body is wounded, each soul is thirsty.
There is dilemma in eyes and sorrow in heart
Is it this world or the humans gone mad.
Even if I get this world, how does it matter
Here, existence of a man is a toy,
this settlement is the settlement of dead worshippers,
here death is cheaper than life,
even if I get this world, how would it matter.
Youth is strayed,
young bodies are decorated like shops
love happens as the trade
even if i get this world how does it matter
this world, where man is nothing
loyalty is nothing and nothing is friendship,
where there is no value of love,
even if I get this world, how does it matter.
Burn this world, Incinearate this world,'remove it from my sight,
It is yours, and you only arrange for this,
Even if I get this world, how does it matter.."
Gurudatt's three movies Pyaasa, Kagaj ke Phool and Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam, all directed and and acted by him between I think 1950-1960 were placed among top ten bollywood movies by India today magzine. And those who admire Gurudatt consider these moments (of this song) as most emphatic expression of Gurudatt. And they are true- Gurudatt committed suicide. How tragically true these words would have been for him too. After all, after the material success of Mr. and Mrs. 55 he was also considered cash churning director ot the day.
Many will consider it as an art- and quantify it- top 10 bollyoood or top 100 or top 1000. I was not surprised when I saw a programme conducted on an american channel as top -100 quotes from the movies.
What I consider as art is something which can make even somewhat vaguely- even represent the truth of the matter. And the truth never brings depair, it might bring laughter, it brings the lightness of the existence in the forefront.
Compare this with Gurudatt's or Sahir's (whom I think is the lyricist), it is from Namdeo, a sixteenth century poet from Maharashtra. Gurudatt is talking only in terms of how poor and down trodden are screwed by rich humans- there is no love and so on- this world is not worth living-the protagonists goes away- as we;; as Gurudatt who committed suicide eventually.

Now Namdev, as he prepared some chapatis, for offering to God and subsequently his own consumption, a dog broke into his hut and ran away, taking all the chapatis in his mouth.
Now Namdev is running behind the dog, with the container of ghee in his hand, "please don't eat these chapatis as such, let me apply ghee on them. They won't taste good without ghee".
I don't know why, I find that there is art in Namdev's, not only because it is religious, but his psyche has travelled much more freely into the experiences he was having rather than one, where whole "world" is not worth living just because some humans treat others humans like shit.

This is more terrifying than any terrorist attack or Pakistan

I did not write any thing in response to Mumbai terror attack. Tragic as they were, there was something really comic about those attacks and the response to them. I will elaborate about them in later columns. Let the whole comedy play itself, though it is dark or black humour as one would call it.
But the following incident about lynching by people led by a politician in UP reveals something about us, which really threatens us as a civilization. And I can say that this incident is not an aberration, but these incidents are much more common and there would be many more if people are not paying up to these antisocial criminals. More than such incidents themselves, real threat comes from those elements in our society which perpetrate such incidents, which tolerates such incidents, those who take advantage of incidents, those who ensures that such acts can be committed with impunity, those who colludes with them and the mob which supports these incidents.
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/engineers-death-sp-cong-call-bandh-ljp-backs-it/402569/
Why this is real threat. Because it happens in almost every area, every state, almost every village. This lynching mob. And they are in power in democracy. or worse this is the only way to get power. Mao said power flows through the barrel of gun, here it flows through the stones of the mob. And this mob is to be respected, worshipped if one has to get power, to win an election. How can they be wrong? How dare anyone chastise them? Even if leader points out to them that they are lynching, he will loose election if lucky or lynched with family if unlucky. There are these criminal elements, whose place should be a psychiatric treatment in jails; but they are out acting as leaders. And those sophisticated leaders who would not openly incite mob, who are not like Thakre brothers, have their agents who would do this jobs. And even if one may succeed in putting these leaders in jail, what will this unthinking, following mob would do? Is there anyway to reform it? Can it be reformed by force? Because even if this mob refrains from doing something illegally, is not these mindless, dimwits, with no sense of moral conscience, with no sense of empathy, would create disaster in whatever they are doing?
And this my friends is the biggest danger.
And most of the issues which arose during and after Mumbai attack, whether comical response to the ongoing attacks, or the preparation for such attack after being repeatedly warned by terrorists themselves as well as intelligence agencies (even in absence of such warning, any numbnut would have guessed seeing the attacks occurred in past months), the coverage by television channels, the following warmongering or rumours- all this is because the only mind we have is mob mind. And so do our neighbours.
Freeing this mob mentality requires education- not what the middle class means by education which is merely that which is leading to job and prosperity (and now we can have little sex education thrown in it), but learning about one's own structure by oneself (because no other can teach it) because what we all are, one is and in that learning lies the liberation from mob mentality. This would require enormous patience and most of our GDP. But when any investment in education is measured only in terms of income it will generate, who wants to 'learn about oneself' or 'any such metaphysical crap'. Should not such person go to monastry, they would ask.

Where I differe from Roys and Chomskys.

I have argued before that the massive energy we are investing in keeping Kashmir in, does not worth it and we should let them go, or to appease my more nationalistic friends I would say, we should kick Kashmir out of India. This is something which I wrote in detail somewhere before, and recent attacks in Mumbai again bring my attention to this matter. However, my position is not same as that taken as that of Roys and other leftist liberals- supporting Kashmiri cause, or supporting their independence. I find the Kashmiri or any type of separatism disgusting. These separatist tendencies, isolationist urges, extreme identification with ethnicities- they are equally rotten, whether Kashmiri or Indian. As long as one party is demanding this land for oneself, other would be there to contest it. Separatism and isolation do not solve a damn thing. Of course one can ask for more rights for state, more autonomy and one can almost make the demand for independence almost redundant. One is born in a culture and one carries the way of life associated with it, and one can enjoy it and live it. But the excessive obsession with it, the emotional appeal for separatism based on regional or ethnic identity, or even national or religion for that matter leads to divided and fragmented view of reality, which breeds violence, or rather I would emphasize this fragmented and divided view is violence itself.
What problem separation of Pakistan and India has solved- and I don't live under the illusion that it would have been different had there been no partition. These intellectuals think that world is fixed, there are victims and victimizers. But it is never so and had never been so. These so called oppressed, marginalized victims are as dumb and stupid as their victimizers. These witless victims of oppression have their own victims and they are as much sadist as any other. Moreover since they lack refinement and sophistication- just because of lack of exposure to education, they are even more dangerous. Laloo, Mulayam, Mayawati, Karunanidhi, Chautala etc. - they all came into power with the promise of uplifting backward classes, but they only uplifted themselves and their relatives. The plight of tribals of Chhatisgarh and Jharkhand that Roy often cites, they are controlling the governments over there. But have those tribal chief ministers worked for them- Shibu soren, Munda, Ajit jogi or they have turned into pipmps of greed, cruelty, insensitivity, corruption, political manipulation themselves.
And everything is so evident, still Roys and chomskys remain so confident in viewing everything from their fixed glasses of class struggle and keep on propagating the myth that changing a system, just manipulating some circumstances- giving independence to Kashmir, educating tribals, preventing mining, and so on would somehow change everything. It is very hard to realize that nothing changes. History tells us, we had handed over complete dictatorship to proletariat- nothing changed. It is high time we realize that there are seeds of destruction inside our psyche, there is something flawed with it, and unless that is seen and tackled everything would remain merely cosmetic. Whatever utopia we build with that flawed psyche, it will not only be meaningless, but the added energy and enthusiasm would make that even more lethal. But seeing the things as they are, this vast reality as it is, requires a solitary journey, losing our beliefs and faiths of religious and secular utopias, not being able to take refuge in anything man made something which ignorant as well as so called intellectuals obsessed with activity are singularly incapable of. It requires a receptive heart, one which is silent, one which is humble in its approach to reality, one which is seeing the totality of it- and not imposing on the reality its own learned knowledge and classification- seeing the oppressor as well oppressed, and the rest of it, what is outside as well as what is inside. to explore what an extraordinary phenomenon life is. There is no leader in this not are there followers in it, no one can be guide or intermediate in this. And without understanding this extraordinary movement of life, this vast reality one is bound to live in illusion and life is reduced to the mechanical labor which has no meaning. And history has shown us, without clearing that corruption and poverty of the psyche- all the movements inevitably degenerate into same thing against which they arose.
It does not mean that I support the oppresors or exploiters, I just wish to add that situation is far more complex and demands far more seriousness and attention then viewing and applying Marxist solutions to it.

Lessons from Malegaon Probe

There are many who are criticizing police for going hard on so called "Hindu terrorists" and others who are criticising these critics in turn, each labeling the other as traitors or political manipulators.
We do not know what was right or wrong. BJP is setting a bad precedent for so called secularists also, now if there is any anti terrorist investigation against Muslims or minorities during the BJP rule, BJP would have to face the same criticisms which it is labeling right now on congress.
This does not mean that the methods of ATS are not flawed and they are not to be criticized or to be called to explain certain confusing and deliberately misleading aspects of the probe. But it also hints that similar travesty of justice would have been carried out when several Muslims have been held in the past.
I have many friends of the patriotic sort who have supported heavy handed and preferably extrajudicial actions (even killing in encounters) against terrorists when they happened to be Muslims. The same pattern of action is expected against other criminals too. They also invariably concede that our police forces are extremely corrupt and inhuman. But somehow they could not connect these two points to see that the supporting police force in these incompetent and cowardly encounters done mainly to get promotions or please political masters would not only lead to suffering of many innocent people and their families in particular but would also lead to general insensitivity of police force and people towards human rights and rule of law to an extent that no one would expect that these agencies should be transparent and accountable to the most ordinary Indians, who usually shiver with fear with the very thought of going to police stations. For every real terrorist caught (if at all) there would be thousands of ordinary people who would be harassed by our corrupt police force. The sense of power and invincibility police gets when it is not questioned will lead to immense torture of ordinary poor and downtrodden who will be routinely rounded up, tortured into confession to 'crack' the case. And then there will be many even in middle class who will be facing the similar prospects just because they have offended someone.
According to a human right group there have been 7500 deaths in past 5 years in India in police custody, though the actual numbers might be far higher.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7474656.stm This does not include the people killed everywhere in police firing during demonstartions and crimes and deaths resulting from the nexus of police and criminals. Some estimates put the cases of torture by police every year at around 1.8 million
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7689491.stm
The terror of police is much more prevalent and pervasive than the terror of terrorists. 99% won't know anyone who has been directly affected by terrorism, it is so rare, while almost all of us would know someone or the other who has been harassed by police. It will be hard to find a village or town where someone or the other has not been tortured by police in recent memory. Still we and our media keep on suppporting police against the innocent victims caught in the name of terrorists. Now since so called 'Hindu terrorists' have been caught, it is time not to attribute political motives but to ask for greater accountability and transparency from the police-whether the accused are Muslims or Hindus. We should expect them to follow the rule of law themselves first and they should be expected to operate within the constraints of our constitution and human rights to nab the criminals. Of course it would be tougher but let us realize that this is the only way to do things. Apart from victimization and framing of thousands of innocents accused from the petty to very serious crimes as terrorism, it also breeds a culture of incompetence where police forces loose their capacity to solve a case (if at all they have), to bring real culprits to justice and to challenge our judicial system to perform better. While the innocents will be trapped behind the bars caught in maze of judiciary- real criminals will prevail and prosper. They system would be inevitably skewed in the favour of real criminals- and the crime rates would be bound to go up.
I often hear that the job of police will be very difficult then, but is it not precisely why they get salary and power. Right now would be constables have the attitude of harassing innocents and making money, let them be aware of the situations in which they would have to operate and perform, and then let them decide to join the police force or not.

Liberation of females and progress

I visited India in OCtober 2008, and was able to talk to people from many walks of life and could see the very obvious lawlessness, and rule of goondaism in daytoday life. While media will focus on Raj Thackrey etal, in most of the Hindi speaking provinces, there is no rule of law. The only reason that there is apparent peace, is because of vast majority goes about their lives bending their heads and deriving whatever benefit they can from such lawlessness. THere are goonda politicians who rule the population as well as the resources, they can insult, and even physically threaten bearocrats. There are courtiers of these feudal lords, their psychofant loyal supporters, who are situated in every department of public sector right from education, health, taxation, water supply, housing, transport- whose only job is to control the government funds and in return provide protection to incompetent government workers from being reprimanded. And in order to assert and reassert their power, to reassure themselves of it, they have to abuse daily, their coworkers. Helpless though they are, yet they accept it readily as it only to victimize most ordinary Indians.
Only one or two really thinking man/woman I encountered were pessimistic and their only solution was to 'wait for another Gandhi'. But I felt optimistic, there was a reason for it.
I have a hypothesis. If I spread the map of the world before me, and I mark those societies where women are liberated-sexually, financially, socially, politically and free to pursue their own identities- through education or otherwise and have entered the public space- I inevitably see these societies as free from corruption, goondaism and so on. And those societies where females have been subjugated, suppressed are practically exploding, or they are under dictators who are under great strain to postpone the explosion. And there might be various reasons for this.
And as I moved across India, I saw women asserting themselves, young girls being educated and being able to express themselves much more freely than the previous generations, being liberated from the 'kitchen' and attached responsibilites- I have a reason to be optimistic.
Don't agree with me? See this news coming from my own home state.

Would state sue Imam Bukhari?

As I mentioned in my earlier post regarding dispelling of doubts by the sacrifice of Ins. Sharma, I also cautioned and left unwritten, till the pseudosecularists..
Now since Bukhari himself has mentioned, that Inspector Sharma was killed by his own companions, and named Patil and Delhi Police chief as main conspirator
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Delhi/Imam_counters_encounter_story/articleshow/3532050.cms
and very soon our Laloo-Mulayam Brigade will endorse this conspiracy theory, is there anyone to take legal action against Bukhari. Forget about the broader implications, does not it constitute defamation to living people, and the real organization.

Why Sharma's sacrifice is more valuable than it might appear?

In any other normal, country, the supreme sacrifice of a soldier while fighting the deadly, psychopaths would have inspired multitude; but in our andher nagari such sacrifice acts as light, and do much much more. Sacrifice of Inspector Sharma should put to rest lot of leftist and pseudosecularist propaganda that the current string of blasts is conspiracy of right wing Hindu fundamentalists in order to benefit BJP. While I do not defend Bajrang dal or other Hindu fanatic organizations, and agree that they have their own sins for which they should be punished and if necessary the elements perpetrating acts of terror in them should be treated in similar fashion as these jihadi psychopaths, it is absolutely shameful that Laloo-Mulayam-leftists inorder to reap Muslim votes are ready to exonerate SIMI and deny the existence of Muslim terrorism. There are columnists like Jawed Naqavi who are raising the possibility of there not being any Indian Mujahideens and the email circulating might have originated from some elements of Hindu right (as appeared in his column in Pakistani newpaper dawn basing in some analysis from Ram Puniyani. It is quite obvious that the bomb blasts traced to Hindu fanatics should be investigated, made transparent to the public and guilty should be punished- but to say that all the jihadis being arrested are innocent, and it is vast conspiracy of being Hindu fanatics to frame them in order to reap political advantage is either highly cynical or crafty political calculation.
Sharma's sacrifice have vindicated our investigative agencies and shown the true colours of politicians claiming otherwise- and has also revealed the seriousness of the threat we are facing. It is only till our politicians or leftist columnists do not come up with another conspiracy theory explaining away Sharma's martyrdom..

Evangelising: Do we need more religion

Missionary activities by Christian groups and counter missionary activities by Hindutva has fueling the violence in Orissa and Karnataka. In many ways these episodes of lawlessness are reveals the failure of governance more than the anonymous terrorist attacks. There are various reasons cited by Missionaries for conversion, prominent of which is escaping the caste system and Hindus proclaim it to be bribery or by force. The ever existing faultlines in the society which constituted bottom strata and were equally powerless, now sensing power with the empowerment of traditionally "backwards" now assume different identities and clashes for grabbing of the resources. We have abolished caste system officially, but alas, there is no legislation to abolish, hatred rooted in the perception of other.
And we have allowed religion to occupy the space vacated by castes, and it has become major vehicle of fragmentation and hatred.
We might have asked, do we need more of the religion? Evangelical zeal definitely means bringing more religion in public area- the claim of superiority of one way over the other. The resurrection of native tribalism- the poison of nationalism and religion remains the only glue to unify society being torn apart by economic inequality and pursuit of power.
It would have been great if those walking out of caste system, would have not walked into another mental and intellectual slavery. That might have redeemed us. But that need education, that need some basic minimum security in the society, that needs trust in impartial law or constitution rather than in muscle power of one's own kind. And that needs self governance- which is something alien to us, who were slaves for centuries at the same time keeping our own slaves in the society.

Is not evangelising hatred?

The continued violence in Orissa and Karnataka between Hindus and Christians raises some important questions regarding the missionaries activities in India.
Is not all the evangelising, pursuading others to covert or inviting as Muslims say, based on hatred and intolerance of the religion whose adherents one is aiming to convert? Is not there underlying belief in evangelising religions that the prevalent religion are cult of devil worshipper at the worst or ignorant damned to hell at the best. Although missionaries of charity will proclaim all the religions lead to God, or truth, a real conviction would not put full stop to all the conversions. Can we tolerate this being practiced openly and still take action against exploding breed of reactionary Hindu fundamentalists.
If at all this should be the basis of prohibiting conversions and not the facade of "conversion by force or bribe" to prevent religious disharmony. If at all religious conversions should be banned because all religions are equally false or equally true- though some may have more troublesome practices or ideologies which should be rooted out mercilessly irrespective of which ever religion they belong to. An example of such would be abolition of sati.

Understanding of Sanskrit poets

Recently we heard lot of news regarding the toxic levels of heavy metals present in Ayurvedic medicines which has been fatal in many cases. Though many suppporters of Ayurveda are saying this is meaningless maligning of Indian traditions, and to these supporters I would like to remind that our ancient Sanskrit poets were very well aware of the often deadly nature of Ayurveda, hence this saying
"VaidyaRaja namastubhyam YamaRajsahodara Yamastu harati praNaan Vaidyo praNaan dhananincha"
Second example of their understanding is the cleverness of crow. As one of my friend Mishra ji from Sagar used to say, now scientists are discovering the tool making capacity, and other intelligent functions of crow. Indians observed it thousands of years before and wrote several stories about clever crow, the most famous being how a crow drops small stones in pitcher with very low level of water, and the water level rises, crow drinks and flies away. And let us never forget the Kakbhushundi, who narrated Ramayana to Garuda, the very symbol of all that which is auspicious, and who is immune to illusion of the Maya forever.

Who will stand up to Raj Thackrey

Who will stand upto Raj Thackrey. Ironically, though his own sirname is anglicised version of Thakare (just like my faourite author William Thackrey), his paranoid ever readiness to get offended and agitate is unmatched. Now since even Amitabh Bachhan and Jaya has apologized for the economic interests, who can stand up to anyone who threatens to take law into hands. This act of the most famous and respected bollywood couple going down will inspire thousands of Raj Thackrey across the country.
Who is going to pacify mob and tell it the function of the state? In his delusion Raj Thakrey thinks himself to be an heir of George Washington, but he is more an heir of Jinnah, who pursued divisive politics for their narrow self pursuits of power.
Probably some day the citizens of this pathetic country will realize that they are not slaves, and it is their own state, their own administration they are weakening. But that day might be very far or may never come. What has happened to our respected citizens, or they are simply bhands, court jesters in the darbar of mighty.
But where is the state, where is law, where is police?
Mob is ruling everywhere with insanity, unfortunately there is no Socrates to choose to die rather than being ruled by it.

Now what to say about this idiocy

There is huge headline on the website of Indian express today regarding apology by jaya Bachhan and regret by Amitabh Bachhan and BJP joining Raj Thakarey for slamming Jaya. Raj Thakrey has banned Jaya and Amitabh's movies in Maharashtra. I wonder how much the apology is due to genuine change of heart or it is just cowering to intimidation or economic realities. Yesterday Bal Thakarey was after Shahrukh for calling himself Dilliwala. When you bcome optimistic about the future seeing these divisive wolves aging, you find that there are new pups who have tasted blood are becoming alpha males and taking charge of the packs.
This is such a ridiculous issue, and yet these are headlines in the our andher desh and its andher nagaris. People dying and suffering in flood, children and grandparents of the country are washed away, surviving on meagre food to just hold on, crime, terrorism- no just this.
I have no sides in this studpidity. Both sides as well as those who have made it headlines and who support them are plainly stupid period.
By the way one suggestion to Raj Thakarey, Bal Thakrey and BJP: Why not ask Film industry to leave Bombay as it makes majority of films in HIndi. Why not chase all multinationals as they conduct business in English. WHy not shut down university and colleges as they teach only in ENglish. Why not shutdown all the research institutes. Why not shutdown hospitals too, as they write prescription in English, most medicines are labeled in English, and even the term hospital and doctor are English. Why not shut down airports and railway stations too, as most of the operations, and even the names of these devices are in English. Why not throw away every computer in Arabian sea as most of the operations they conduct are in English.
Would someone tell these idiots that all the languages are imperfect and workable tools and nothing more than that, and they need constant evolution through interaction, otherwise they die. It will be great if they expel out every word of other languages from Marathi, and then they will find out how viable it will be.
And may I ask Jaya ji, why someone should always speak one's mother tongue? Really, even if we are discussing nuclear physics, then too, or probably Jaya ji would never come across some other Hindi speaking having tastes in sciences or modern theories of arts and literature.
Oops! I again fell in the trap of these mindless exploiters and their mechanical followers.
Truth is every language has its own imperfections and beauty. There are certain things which are unique to each language, they can never be translated and if they are, they lost their contexts completely. Just try reading the subtitles of a film, where you know both the language of the film as well as language of the subtitles, and you will realize the fun of it.
Learning and speaking other languages enriches a person, and through the person, other languages too. After all languages are for us and not the other way round.

PS: As the latest Amitabh Bachhan ji claims that Raj is his friend. Where is the angry young man? hint: try looking for self centered, greedy, cowardly old man.

Identity politics

I read this news today in BBC about hounding out Bangladeshi Muslims by indigenous population of Assam.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7603984.stm
It is true that Bangladeshi immigrant crisis is one of the many Gorillas sitting in the room, and no one wants to talk about it except Hindu extremists- probably because no one knows what to do about it and how to do it. Ultra liberals of the society and the ultra leftists will appeal to humanism and would like to see all of them as members of one great "South Asian Identity", while at the same time supporting Kashmiri Separatism. Others, while would like to see all of them deported, would concede the impracticality of this monumental task, and may feel compassionate to the poor Bangladeshis.
I have in past written about kicking Kashmir out of Indian Union. Now, I realize that we should have done that long ago. Keeping such separatist and divisive creeps amidst our society and supporting them, and singing the praises of conjured up "kashmiriyat" of the people who lack basic "insaniyat" and who successfully carried out 'ethnic cleansing',has only watered the tree, whose seeds were planted by Muslim nationalism before independence and whose fruits we are witnessing in the incidents like the one mentioned in the above news at one hand and in the rhetoric of Raj Thakarey at the other.
The march of millions of poor Bangladeshi into India, is a testimony to the failure and hypocrisy of Islamic nationalism and lesson to all those indulge in or silently support the identity politics as well as those who ignore and tolerate it. While these agitation are politically initiated and supported by middle class or working people, poor people, the daily bread earners are mostly sidelined and are left without a voice although they constitute a majority (People living under a dollar a day are more than 50 % in India). While India has its own voiceless poor, who usually come on the street and participate in violence for just what they fail to earn on such days- a dollar paid by the organizers to show their democratic muscles. These are the poor people- completely unaware of everything- they are the ones who are beaten down daily in India, and they are the ones who come from Bangladesh. No one asked them before partitioning this land and those who asked gave them the golden dreams full if confidence- that Hindus are the only obstacle in their way of achieving the promised paradise. And they bought it, and got betrayed. And while we can not say that masters believed it completely or whether they were hypocrites just deceiving poor to get powerful in the smaller land which will only be for Muslims; one thing is certain- they were not aware what monsters they would are raising.
What about Kashmir, if it separates from India, within years, it would be another battle ground of Kashmiri Taliban (surprised! we did not hear about Pakistani Taliban before some years) and Jammu region will be flooded with the refugees trying to escape the insane Talibani jihad. It will be a poetic justice, those who ethnically cleanse, will be cleansed similarly.

Bihar floods and the role of the state

It is particularly disheartening to see the management of Kosi flood in Bihar by the state of India, and even more disheartening is the response of Indians towards this response. There are people who are stuck on the roof tops for almost a week, sourrounded by 10 ft. water, without any food or drinking water. I wonder what that means to most of our politicians- those who are paying slightest of attention to flood only to score political points. Why are they and more importantly we are not moved by the sight of sounds of this forgotten and suffering humanity? all those who are agitating for pride of Hindus or pride of Indians, all those who are celebrating our "great victory" in olympic, do not hang themselves out of shame on seeing our response to these floods. But how does that matter? Even Children not having any dry place to sleep on or to eat, not to mention any thing else. I wonder why it not outrage us as does the land transfer issue in Jammu and Kashmir? Why it not outrage us the bombing of cities by some terrorists? Why it not outrage us, as the publication of Danish cartoons or paintings by M F (Mother Fucker) Hussain? Why we not come on the street demanding for the better governance as we agitate demanding reservation and other countless trivial things?
Why don't we ask for education, for healthcare, for protection from criminals, musclemen, for law and order? Why we do not fight to reduce the infant mortality in which we are at the bottom, poverty, malnutrition, jobs, human trafficking for all. We are all ready to sacrifice these issues for immature sentimental issues, for the token of honor, which would have appealed only the medieval feudal mindset or to some very narrow mindset. We became so much driven by our narrow immediate self interests that we refuse to open our eyes and see even one step ahead of us.
What is factor for this apathy. Or may be as middle class is developing and getting to know America have found liberation in the ideology of American right which do not believe in State taking care of people, and wish for them to pull themselves up by boot strap. Does our government becoming hot over America is practicing the some version of this free market capitalism, as we practiced socialism when we were sucking USSR's dick. Do we believe this in India or there is something else going on here.
We have completely failed as a state, as a society and as humans. Floods and droughts are the most common and most severe problems faced by India, and we could not unite the two to solve them so far. We do not have developed even a primitive flood relief mechanisms. We are at the mercy of elements in the same way as we were in the paleolithic age.
Today I do not care if India remain united or breaks into millions of tiny fiefdoms run by criminals. They are those any way. Our government is just another of those criminal enterprise, who would often have facade of decent men like Manmohan singh or Vajpayee or Kalam, who is controlling everything to benefit those who are in power, but essentially it remains like a pimp and brothel cartel. Even after 50 years people are selling their children for meals. How can we expect this heartless mafia to react to misery of people suffering in flood.
But it tells a lot about we as a people too.

Should evangelising be banned in 21st century India?

This question should not have arisen had we not seen the repeated violence and murders due to tension arising between neo-christians (backed by missionaries) and tribals who resist conversion (backed by Sangh Parivar), the latest in the series is

I know, I know all this talk about freedom of religion, conscience etc., in the modern society. I know that China and Islamic countries are criticized the world over for their suppression of religious freedom. But let us see them freshly and not treat freedom of converting others as some holy cow, not to be questioned. Let us see what does it imply.
To set the record straight, I do not care about the demographic trends. I do not care even if whole India become Muslim or Christians. Those who are gullible enough to fall in that trap, I would be very happy myself to escort them to the door of Church or Mosque, they have every right to do so. I can somewhat understand if some one is not able to throw off the shackles of the religious prison in which they were born- it is hard. But to all those gladly accepting new prisons in some foolish hope of paradise- I wish them good luck. I also do not care if tomorrow India becomes a Muslim or Christian country as many Hindu nationalists believe and loose their sleep over. If it turns out so, it is what probably Indians deserve, and even in that case we would not be any more pathetic than what we are today- with our secular democracy. I am also not against Christian missionaries' bribing of poor and destitute for conversion, as long as the poor are comfortable with it. It is morally appalling for both the parties, almost like prostitution of faith- but that is up to the two parties.

I also do not get angry over those who are searching for the liberation, salvation or heaven in the blind adherence to the mere conceptual, and condemning themselves and their children to the life of submission or slavery. If anything, I feel slight annoyance and pity for them.

TO be a complete human being- a total human- the realize the real potential of that seed- means seeing the life in its total nakedness-totally free of all illusions, free from concepts- is the real deal. Anyone living any less is living like animals; and anyone desirous of living so, would be able to live anyhow, in any situation. And any one who is Muslim, Christian or Hindu is light years away from that.

But it is the hypocrisy and cowardice of the Indian seculars, masquerading as religious tolerance of the state which troubles me.

Almost 99 % content of all religions is full of crap, fantasies, wishful thinking, abdicating responsibility, arrogant egoistic conceit. Those claiming to be in the party of God, following the insane claims of someone claiming to have gotten special favors from some heavenly feudal Lord, whose only demands are that we pray and obey him unquestioningly and in return that feudal Lord will reward us with heaven, otherwise will punish us in most cruel ways we can ever imagine in hell-and every second of the time he is spying over us, over our most intimate thoughts and acts-all this is so ridiculous that it is not worthy of even reasonable degree of intelligence. Anyone falling for that is not going after any transcedental reality (if there is one) but are indulging and worshiping their own thoughts, their own fantasies, their own little egos; they are not slaves to God but slaves to their own fear of hell and greed of heaven.

That people believe and act out of such faith is bad enough.

While we can not say anything to those who truly believe so-after all we can not and should not take away the freedom of masturbating humans to imagine that they are giving it to the hottest one, even if they are delusional enough to take it as reality. That is what I call the religious freedom, and no authority should have power to take it away. But things become really dangerous if they are allowed to go in the street, and start fighting with others over the superiority of their insanity over the insanities of others and start striving for the ordering of society according to their hallucinations.

Now what we would say about the beliefs, ways of life, feeling and an attitude which inculcates in their believers the confidence that theirs is the only way approved by God, and all others are sinners doomed to hell. And their superstitious arrogant unquestioned egoistic belief that they are right, give them power to act under the same feeling.

Just imagine, if I sincerely believe and express the opinion that XYZ is a thief, and if that is not proved by a court of law, I will be forced to apologize and repent; if I say that the members of a particular ethnic or religious groups are criminal I would rightly be condemned and might be punished too if I am some one who is worthy of getting attention of press or enough numbers of people.

Then how can I continue to be not only respected but given the privilege, when I believe and act out of the belief and incite others of the similar faith that followers of all other religions are infidels, worshiping the evil, fallen people, doomed to hell, their ancestors and cultures are corrupt and sinful worthy of our hate and there is nothing good about them except the ability to choose my way of living. Is not this degree of disrespect for others the utmost intolerance? Should any civilized society tolerate and give freedom to people operating with such beliefs and acting out it in everyday life, vigorously infecting others with their similar hateful ideologies. And is not the above mentioned attitude behind all those who are promoting conversions.

In the matters of unknown or to be more precise unknowable, where all the religious claims originate, an reasonable person would say that no human can be an authority. Any one who claims to know the will or dictate of God is an arrogant fool. In that conviction or belief it is not they are worshipping the mystery but they are worshipping their own egoistical little selves. God, and all theology is just a concept, and
While it will be unfair to take away that belief from the believer, it becomes really problematic, if the believer is so dead certain in his haluucinations that he or she goes to actively convince others of his beliefs- and is ready to sacrifice lives for that. To wrongly believe that some community is criminal is a very minor offence in comparison to the belief that the whole community and its ancestors. its culture, its heritage is corrupt, sinful, devilish, evil and is doomed to hell; and any effort to convert them to light, even if it involves killings or suicides will be rewarded with heavenly rewards. The later is pure insanity. And any society which allows this insanity is propagate, can afford to do so if it is investing many times more in educating its members in fields of reason and logic. Otherwise that society is doomed to the endless cycle of violence and strife.

And the whole basis of evangelising, conversion is that. You and your ancestors have lived in sin and evil. The only right way to reach God is my way. This is infinitely more grave than how we would chastise someone whom we are wrongly assuming to be a petty thief, it is uncivilized and inhuman.

As I see, we have enough of religion in our Godforsaken country. We should all take steps to move towards reason and enlightenment; instead of letting the armies of preachers of hate and bigotry invade us.

What is needed for to be vicotorius

After so many distractions through world I have came back to realize that the truth- not some supreme truth of philosophers or theologians but the the more practical truth, to guide me day to day, not only in the personal but all the battles which concern me (and my personal battles are irrelevantly tiny fraction of the battles which are in front of me as a human)- the truth was very evidently made clear to me, in my own my own mother dialect. And I firmly believe that same should be true about every race, every tribe.
At least hundred of commentrators are contributing in Indian news papers what should be the ideal strategy to deal with the current problems facing the nation, what would be the ideal course of actions which would lead country to the glory or help the nation emerge victorious against the seemingly perennial struggle against Pakistan or Kashmiri ethnically cleansed awam or residual Muslims of India who are threatening with another partition (here
http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20080062482

it would be interesting to know whether these indian muslim for another partition would like to join Pakistan, or would create another country by some other name)- or what would help them to retain power by exploiting the rawest of all human emotions. But I would like those concerned at all with my Indian heritage (though my hypothesis is that truth is available to every one from all generations very easily), to listen to this dialogue between Vibheeshan and Rama as depicted by Tulsidas. Go to this link and click at Lanka kand (Vibheeshan Gita)

http://www.raaga.com/channels/hindi/moviedetail.asp?mid=HD000104

Enjoy the wonderful musical rendition and translation by wonderful Chunnilal Mishra.

Vibheeshan feels apprehensive about how Rama will face Ravana, Ravan is all powerful soveriegn with chariot, armour, weapons and so on, while Rama is barefoot, walking on the ground, without any protective measures. Rama tells Vibheeshan not to worry and tells him what is the chariot and means needed to conquer the world (please forgive my pointing out that Rama does not mention conquering the Ravana but start telling about what is needed to be victorious in any battle).

In short term it might seem that contrary to what is depicted is winnning but mark my word- what is depicted will be victorious in the long run.

It does not mean that there would be many disagreeing with me, I would like to talk to them

Fianlly there is some Indian with self respect- Bravo Vir Sanghavi!!

I feel immense happiness in reading the latest column of Vir Sanghavi "Think the Unthinkable", which is available at Hindustan Times website
http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryPage/FullcoverageStoryPage.aspx?sectionName=&id=37ea1a37-c222-41e7-8b19-859b5fd34cbdAmarnathLandRow_Special&&Headline=Think+the+Unthinkable
Finally someone has enough self respect.
And while Sanghavi raises the stark contrast between Kashmiri separatism and others, and agree that there is something in Kashmiri separatism which makes it less likely to be extinguished, he does not say anything about Islam. I do not think any region where 90 % of population is Muslim has lived willingly with any state for long. No other insurgency was fuelled by religion except Khalistan. But Sikhism, is not a separative religion viewing the world in terms of believer and infidels, and does not have exclusivinist and ideologies promoting fragmentation in its core scriptures. It does not call for active conversion or annihilation of unbelievers in its scriptures, it does not have a room for establishing a state based on scriptural texts and so on. While Kashmiris have been quite successful in portraying their struggle as secular, and we ourselves have knwoingly refused to acknowledge it but right from the begining, from the purging of HIndus from the valley, to violent protests against current Land transfer to a shrine which is dear to HIndus all over the world- they have shown their true colours.
Using lot of data and facts Sanghavi brilliantly demonstrate how we treat Kashmiris like privileged lot (though they fully sympathesise with Pakistan), as compared to hundred of millions of poor Indians who take fully pride in being INdian, abide by constitution, has not turn to rebellion against state though they are living in most abject conditions. We are like some poor lover who is selling blood to woo a mistress who hates him and only dreams of dumping him.
And Kashmir alwyas keep us at the level of Pakistan, and we are not left with enough energy to deal with other problems like education and health care of citizens, improvement in internal security. Just other day the bill to make primary education compulsory was not passed because state and center expressed their inability to generate enough funds. While they can get billions to squander in Kashmir.
BRavo Vir SAnghavi.
I think it will start a sensible debate.
Moreover, 21 st century will be the century of 'self determination'. And if 90 % Kashmiris want to cling to Pakistan or freedom, no one would be able to stop it. If Indians will suppress it brutally(like China(, it will not only damage credibility but also damage the principles of democracy and human rights of which we profess to be the biggest custodian.

The stupidity of "Independeance Day"

Today is India's Independence day. Today is India's Independence day. From my childhood, I had been brainwashed to feel proud on this day and feel gratified we have something called "independence", and be grateful to those who brought it to me (though I never asked for it) and be ready to sacrifice myself to protect it (although I was always afraid of the last part).
Now as I grow old, I realize what a filthy lie this word is. What does it mean? The word means 'property of not being dependent on any one'? Can anyone or anything claim that? Is not everything on the earth is related and dependent on everything else- not only living beings, but even 'inanimate' things like wind, water, climate, weather, mountains-which do not know any boundary. An earthquake striking in far lands of Indonesia, causes destruction and devastation for us in India and beyond. That is the dance of nature, that is the nature's way of celebrating and advertising lack of any division in it. We feel bad because we feel we are not only independent, but it is our birthright (although we are kicked in butt by our police and leaders almost daily) and when we are killed like rats we feel offended.
Not even earth is totally independent, it is dependent on sun, moon and so many other planets to be held in its place. We ourselves are products of unfathomable properties of matter, how can we claim any independence?
And we claim a country (if there is any such thing) can be independent. Can it be, ever? Are there countries by the way? or are there only people, land, water, forest and animals. Are these boundaries not just concepts in the minds of stupid humans, just like famous teapot circling the earth- and even if almost all the humans will at the gunpoint would force me to respect what is in their mind-does it make it any more true than concept of North Koreans that their former president is the eternal ruler of North Korea.
And even among these tentative concepts, can we claim any independent country today? Even mighty ones like USA are dependent on the oil and hence they have to also ingest all the shit which comes from it-not to talk of armies of legal and illegal immigrants and allies like Saudis and Pakistan. Every country is dependent on others for its prosperity and security- otherwise that illusion of independence would be lost within days- either by internal decay or run down by barbarians. Now, can that 'independence' be true, if it can be lost, if it is needed to be guarded constantly, if its existence is dependent on bombing millions of other humans, if prosperity of its people is caused by untold miseries of other people or nature.
What is the values of those boundaries, which are totally artificial concepts in the minds of us humans? While I believe it would be very hard to do without any administrative unit, we would need one, and we would need land also to live-just like we need toilet paper to wipe out our shit, but to give it more importance that that, to make it almost supernatural and brainwash our children never to think and question beyond it, to invest great deal of emotion in it, and ready to kill and get killed for it without putting in perspective this animalistic brain of ours is nothing more than one of the so many human stupidities. A lot has been written against religion, but people have not touched this 'nationalism' or tribalism, because it is much more deep rooted in our psyche to make itself exposed, though much larger number of people have been killed, maimed, orphaned and scarred because of the stupid thing called "Proud to be an "asshole".
Nations and countries can be useful units for providing and preserving the nature, for generating happiness and for allowing a child to develop its maximum potential. But they are seldom that. They are something much larger than life, they become collective expression of our "prehuman brain" and bring in whole business of pride, loyalty, identification, hatred, violence, arrogance, separativeness, competititveness and means of oppression to others as well as to ourselves. What is so sacrosanct about territorrial integrity of nation, which is recognized by not even a single creature than humans? They become vehicle for our collective greed for land and resources. Those who are more greedy and stupid, dumb enough to devote their lives for it, control the territories within the 'nation' and work for its 'prosperity' by exploiting those who might not be so greedy or might not be so motivated.
Any human attached to it is still at the level of dogs and wolves. Any country instilling pride and arrogance for the territories, or for the 'people'- is still being a country of dogs and wolves. It does not mean anything even if it conquers the whole world. Not only are these primitives responsible for bringing vast amount of miseries to humans and nature; but they are most miserable and pathologically sad themselves.
People have often used this Darwinian argument to justify our greed for land. But we humans have not survived because of land. We have, because of our ability to adapt and learn, reason and think. We have survived because we could use our brains to make ourselves comfortable in any land, and were not attached fatally to any particular land or climate.

Amarnath bruhaha continues, meanwhile 2 millions are starving

Am I the only insane Indian. My blood boils when I hear the news like this one.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7542521.stm
I would like to deny all of it, just like our mainstream media. IT is too shameful. But the there are pictures like this
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44733000/jpg/_44733582_44733143.jpg
THe great Indian neglect is causing the infant mortality rates plunge worldwide. We kill (if there is any other term for the collective and shameless neglect of the helpless infants to the point of death, you can use that) 2/3rd of world's babies along with China, but we kill more than 5 times that of China. The number is around 2 millions.
Meanwhile foaming Mullahs of Kashmir continue to protest against Amarnath land transfer to infidels , those in Jammu paralyze to save "Lord Shiva" or to end "Kashmiri imperialism". Meanwhile the great leadership of Gujjars (who fought and sacrificed lives of their more sentimental and gullible members to bring some petty government jobs to those among the community, which will be grabbed by those who could bribe or influence, it does not matter all those jobs will be insuffficient to help anyone in long run except the very leaders who are at forefront of the protest) are requesting Hinuds in Jammu to spare Muslim Gujjars. And I hear that protests have began in Kashmir against these protests in Jammu. Meanwhile Supreme court is saying even God can not save this country.
I feel some one could pay attention to these children. Only if we could spend the money we spend on separatist ass holes on these starving children, we could have not only saved these millions but might have generated some brilliant minds who would have been far more valuable than any land. History has told us that. Since we understand only the language of force, let me say that tIny island of England had the greatest of empire, and Japan humiliated Russia as well as China. Otherwise, today even Singapore fares much better than India.
I wish if there were our concerned citizens who would have come out with intensity of even less than 10 % of that which is seen over the most useless issues, against this mass child sacrifice over the altar of greed and insensitivity. Greed, insensitivty and cruelty are our real gods. We are struggling for Baba Amarnath in vain, that is just a show and way of release of our most primitve violence.

Let us kick out Kashmir

For for the sake of sanity please let me know why we are keeping it- is it because it offers us some strategic advantages, against Pakistan, and in the absence of that the rag tag army of Pakistan is going to run over us. OR is it just that we are still living in the medieval feudal mindset which evokes the responses of most territorial animals,  like Duryodhana where we can wage the whole Mahabharat and would not give up land equal to proverbial "point of needle"? Is there any self respect left among us? We are trying to woo Kashmiris with immense wealth. Can any one justify that we are spending far more money on "these India hating as well secular democracy hating, foaming at mouth and going to street whenever Islam is even slightly rationally treated anywhere in the world, and are not ready to lease even 40 acres of land to the infidels, while they have successfully ethnically cleansed the non muslims from the valley, and even when Indian government is bribing them to all its capacity, still even the most educated ones among them, those getting professional education in medical colleges or engineering colleges across India wants either to go with Pakistan or to be free of us, and many of them wants to revert to seventh century way of living outlined in Koran" then those starving still being proud and loyal Indians living on our footpaths and our severely malnourished children.
Why we are paying billions to protect Kashmiris  and forcing our military to do Police's jobs while in the same amount we can not only radically develop our outdated antiquated Police force and secure our cities, which Islamic Mujahideens have shown in July, 2008, that they can strike at their pleasure.

Let us face this. More than 90 % of us population of Kashmir is Muslim and this is the state which borders with Pakistan. Islam is a political religion and it would never reconcile in the country which is being ruled by infidels or secular constitution. For them Koran is the word of God and there can not be any compromise on that. While most of us might choose to delude with the government propaganda, the fact remains that separative tendencies are very strong in Islam and Kashmir being no exception, most of them are for freedom, and even those who are slightly Pro India, like Abdullas, they too want a special case of autonomous Kashmir.

Let us not fall for that farce of "Kashmiriyat" propagated by government and mainstream media. The fact is that valley is almost "ethnically cleansed", thousands have been murdered by terrorists and there have been gross abuses of human rights in the name of counter terrorism efforts.

Instead why not divide J&K in three divisions, and have referendum there. I am sure Jammu and Ladakh, would chose to be with India. Why not leave Kashmir, and let them live the way they want to live; and spend the same amount on millions of starving poor children of India, who wants to be educated, who wants to question everything-from religion to God, to society and create an intellectual force who can be an asset to not only India but the whole humanity.

I am sure there would be many reasons to oppose my view, but let us discuss whether they are valid or not instead of accepting what our mass hysteria tells us.

Open letter to Indian Mujahideens and similar bastards

To all of the bastards who goes by name of Indian Mujahideens and other bastard children of foreign invaders, the children of those females which were given by their fathers and brothers to give blow jobs to Muslim invaders, or they themselves spread their legs and mouths for them (and hence you were born), Wahabbis or ISI agents or similar other prostitutes and pimps like Jaish e mohammad or Laskar e toiba;and those whose asses were torn apart due to fear from Muslim invaders, and who converted to Islam under the fear of sword or who did that just to please the Muslim cocks ruling the country then to get some rewards,

You are most cowards of all human beings. Do not think that by exploding a few bombs you have attained victory over India, who has cut you repeatedly within your size (most recently in kargil), rather once again you have shown how chicken hearted blot on the name of humanity you have been, and once more you have tried to out do yourself. It is not your victory, you have not fought any battle here. THe only thing you have done is, that you intermingled in the guise of our brothers, won our trust and stabbed the most careless of people. You do not have any courage to fight any battle openly, because you know from history that you would be fucked up properly through all the orifices of your body. You are disgrace to humanity, you are far more impure than the dogs, at least they have courage of barking back at the face. You have already sold your honour, your mothers and sisters to Arabs and you yourself have presented your asses and mouths to welcome their and their camel's dicks. There is a saying in India, that even the worst and most impure when attack, they at least leave three homes from where they live. But you are like poisonous snakes who will will bite the same hands that feed you. Indians sacrificed their sons to save you when you were butchering each other (Pakis and Bangladesh), when you were raping your own mothers and sisters, and this is how even Bangla terror outfits are repaying. But this should not have come as a surprise to those who are aware of your treacheorus ways and cowardly assertion that "war is deceit". While you killed and decimated Hindus living in your land, India provided safe haven for those Muslims who were left behind. And in return you have shown your hideous skills of utter shame, which comes only to those who are prostituting their souls. We have roasted your asses many times in the past and will do that again, if you have any courage to fight face to face, instead of harming most unsuspecting woman and children. You showed the height of insanity when you targeted hospitals.I do not know about Mohammad or Allah, that you follow. Many Muslims themselves say that you are blot on Islam. However, there is no doubt in that if true Mohammad was the one, whom you are following, and if he sanctioned such acts, he is really what the Danish cartoons depict him to be.
If you had any guts to fight with your illegimate fathers before Spetember 11, who now are hiding like rats in mountains of Paki-Afghan border, you would have realized what your true worth is in their eyes. They would have made you wash their underwears, and never considered you fit to hold a rifle (you can read the testimonials of those who were brainwashed enough to go there). Now since those rats are likely to be smoked out off their caves as soon as Obama comes in office they are trying to create same lawless, uncivilized patches in India, where they can fuck your mothers and sisters and hide among you. That is true because any true Indian would not hesitate to shoot them at sight. And hiding is not something new to you. You and your illegimate fathers have hell lot of pratice of it.
